ABOUT THE SITE

Welcome to this website about advances in visual methodolgy and technology. The creation of this site stemmed from a course requirement to produce a final project related to qualitative data collection. My vision for my final project is that I will create a site that will encourage researchers to explore qualitative research methods and will introduce technological tools (e.g., VideoNot.es and Google Drive) that can assist with online data collection and analysis. Furthermore, there will be a suggested research scenario, termed "research simulation," in order to provide (1) context with the directions of how to use the technological tools and (2) practice opportunties related to the methodology. More specifically, interested persons will be given a research question and annotate online videos, sharing their experiences while they are watching the videos.

I have created this site to provide basic "instructions" on how to collect data using online video annotations. Nevertheless, my hope is that this site will house discussions that will pertain to not only what has already been presented but also new ideas, techniques, technologies, methods, and methodology. Rooted in constructivism, this site has been designed to become a community that will push the boundaries of visual methodology.

Finally, I decided that much of the site's content would be a response to Advances in Visual Methodology, a collection of writings edited by Sarah Pink (2012). Thus, in addition to discussions among participants, I have also chosen quotes from the book and will present my own responses to those quotes.

DISCUSSION

"Therefore, as a field of scholarship, visual methodology is complex and diverse. Its uniting theme tends to be the focus on the (audio)visual; the media and technologies engaged; and attention to a specific range

of ethical issues" (Pink, 2012, p. 9).
